Calvin Miller

Calvin Miller, Professor of Preaching and Pastoral Ministry at Beeson Divinity School at Samford University spoke in services last week. I had the opportunity to (in our Senior Pastor’s absence) shadow him, do announcements in service, and close in prayer after his message. Twice. He brought one of the best messages I’ve ever heard. It was succinct, humorous, poigniant, and instructional. He’s a really neat man with a talent for preaching and he made an impact on me. I am a better Christian thanks to his message… but here is my point: I wrote him a note telling him as much and thanking him for his time with me. I was never expecting to receive a reply, let alone one of this tenor:

“Dear Kevin:

You’re indeed a free spirit. Never lose that edge. You were so gracious to sit through my sermon, I wish I could sit through yours. Alas, Sunday I will be speaking in Nashville. But I will remember you over the week-end that God will use you in the pulpit at Mountaintop. You have a rare gift of bringing the community into oneness. Don’t lose it: it’s a very special gift that all too few ministers possess. Greetings to all…

100,000 Blessings
Calvin Miller ”

Truly, I am blessed. And I am now one of Calvin’s biggest fans.
