Irma R. Young, 82, of Connersville, died Sunday evening, June 18, 2006, at Heritage House of Connersville where she had resided since May.

She was born June 10, 1924 in Paradis, LA to James and Melina Robesoux Parks. On November 6, 1943, she was married in Westwego, LA to Connersville native, Ernest P. Young, who died December 2, 1966. They came to Connersville in 1944 and had also lived in Texas. She was a member of St. Gabriel Church for many years. She was an active member of the American Legion Post 1 Auxiliary, VFW Post 571 Auxiliary, and a former member of the Ladies of the Moose. She had been employed at Hills Roses in Richmond and had worked as a housekeeper. She had also been a babysitter for many, including Barette Johnson and Halle Farris. She loved to cook, socialize, and was an avid reader of the Bible. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, often with her close friend Jean Soliday, and attending Mardi Gras.

Survivors include a daughter: Marie Brown of Raceland, LA; two sons: James A. Young and his wife, Deborah, Brian K. Young, all of Connersville; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Irma Rita Isaac who died in October 1967, and a brother, Herman Parks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Randall Collins of the Baptist Temple and her grandson, Rev. Kevin Young, officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society or to the Fayette County Senior Center.     My condolences go out to you and your family. We all aren’t getting older. We’re only getting closer. What joy it is to know that a loved one is with the Lord. The only sad part is how much we will miss them while we are still here.
