DAY THREE – Colorado Expedition

CENTRAL CAMP | BAIL-OUT POINT at 10,400ft. | MOUNT BLANCA | Dawn

Bail Out PointWe are up and eating. My coffee is black, my stomach is full, and my mind is as clear as the morning mountain air.

I am beginning to understand why Christ always went to the wilderness during so many tough ministry and life times.

Last night, while speaking to the group on trusting God with all of our hearts (Proverbs 3:5-6), there was an enormous sound like thunder behind me. I jumped a bit and all of the guys eyes widened dramatically. I turned to see what the commotion was, just in time to catch the last remnants of huge boulders tumbling down the mountain across the ravine we were camping in.

Later John asked me if the earth had ever moved while I spoke before. I laughed, but it jump-started started my thinking on the subject of whether it was coincidence or a God moment. Do I really have faith strong enough to move mountains (Matthew 17:20) or was I always right in thinking that was just a metaphor?

Sunrise was several hours ago, officially, but we’ve yet to see the sun itself. Here in the mountains you see its effects long before you see the sun itself. There may be a metaphor there also.

The mountains that are bathed in the sunlight overhead are shining golden in the early morning light. It is beautiful and spectacular, but also humbling that God loved us so much that He created such beauty for our enjoyment.

I’ve always loved Genesis 12… it works well on a very literal level for someone who’s done as much wandering as myself…

FYI You look really mean and mountainy in the new picture… like you should be a Deadwood extra.

  3. Dustris says:

You mentioned how fierce the direct sunlight was at that altitude. The sun is roughly 91 MILLION miles from the earth. And you felt THAT MUCH MORE â??intensityâ? after going only 14,000 feet closer to the sun.

Makes you stop and think in amazement and awe at how CAREFULLY the earth was placed in relationship to the sun to PERFECTLY SUSTAIN human life. You know what the odds are of that happening â??accidentallyâ??

Now give me some BIG BANG THEORY. Freakin’ nut cases……

    More like Grizzly Adams….. http://www.dm-productions.c…

Dustris, Grizzly Adams looks friendly (at least in that picture, as much as my dad pleaded I never saw the movie). Kev has more of a ‘I must kill you now’ look to him.
