Very interesting man. Having grown up Catholic, I know the reasons I left that denomination. I'd be more than happy to share with you why. :) But I agree with the Protestant bigotry towards Catholics that you mentioned.

Funny enough, this past week I've been having some very interesting discussions with a good friend about why he's now attending an Orthodox Church. It has forced me to re-look at some things like "written prayer", liturgy, and the early church fathers. I'm thinking about adding to my library (and reading obviously) things like "Against Heresies" and the like.

Would love to discuss this with you real time sometime man!

Good post. Web design is cool too. The Pope created a group of people to look into UFOs and Aliens. This is an upcoming challenge in Christian apologetics. The Roman Catholic Church makes very political choices in their actions. The RCC is pro-Global Warming and anti-homo. It is a complex religio-political institution (they even have their own currency). RCC is one complex religious institution/state to understand.

I grew up in the same kind of small minded, everyone else is going to hell, the Pope is the Anti-Christ kind of church (that last point was honestly, truly believed. They would point out the scriptures that says there will be many anti-christs and say that the Pope was clearly an anti-christ, even if he wasn't The Anti-Christ. My pastor mentioned in a sermon once how he watched the JFK funeral with bated breath wondering if JFK would rise from the coffin, think about it, charismatic leader, wounded in the head, CATHOLIC! He (and apparently a whole bunch of other protestants who won't admit to it now) actually though JFK was the anti-christ.

....

It all seems very silly now, but still the majority of the church considers heresy to be the greatest imaginable sin, on par with the unpardonable sin.

....
Think about that the majority of the church feels that the worst thing you can do is think incorrect factual thoughts about God. Not open rebellion against God, not a cold heart that no longer thinks of God, Heresy is simply when someone who is honestly searching for God comes to a different conclusion than us about some facts.
....
The term itself is egotistical, it implies or maybe outright states that we are right and everyone else is wrong. It ignores all of the points in scripture where God clearly says that He hides things from us so that we will keep searching for him.
....
I don't have a specific end-point, so I'm going to simply stop rambling now.
