Running is a big part of the culture at Lampo, and after a year of resistance I’ve finally given in and started running myself. I don’t like it yet but I’ve committed to finishing my current training plan and running a 5k in October. We’ll see what happens after that! Maybe I’ll end up like you–although I don’t think I’ll ever run a marathon (maybe a half).

What about the acorns that fell and rooted BEFORE the tree fell? What about the acorns that were carried by the wings of birds to other places to be planted? What about all the impact the mighty Oak had for years prior?
Don’t concentrate or dwell on the FALLING of the tree.

This sounds so…Biblically foreign? I’m thinking I like the model of small churches/house churches much much better, where there’s less need for such “executive” structure. It sounds way too much like a business, and not enough like the “family of God.”

I agree with you, Kevin. A lot of his books seem to play on our desire to fulfill some type of mission/journey in life. I know when I have read his books in the past, I’ve walked away thinking about what I want to become rather than what God calls me to.

That said, his books seem to motivate and encourage me in ways other writers/speakers can’t, as demonstrated in your post. Great observations!

Finally making progress on Desiring God. A little dry, but not nearly as dense as I remembered. I also ended up with a copy of Don’t Waste Your Life, which may make it into the rotation pretty soon.. just after i finish Francis Chan’s Crazy Love, and finish re-reading Mere Christianity, and finish The Weight of Glory…

Very interesting man. Having grown up Catholic, I know the reasons I left that denomination. I’d be more than happy to share with you why. But I agree with the Protestant bigotry towards Catholics that you mentioned.

Funny enough, this past week I’ve been having some very interesting discussions with a good friend about why he’s now attending an Orthodox Church. It has forced me to re-look at some things like “written prayer”, liturgy, and the early church fathers. I’m thinking about adding to my library (and reading obviously) things like “Against Heresies” and the like.

Would love to discuss this with you real time sometime man!
